Bacchanal de Afrique

Bacchanal de Afrique; Afro-Urban Dance and Music Extravaganza.

From Azonto to Zouk; Coupe Decale to Hiphop; Dancehall to Vogue; Afro-house to Soukous and more. Dancers, DJs and Musicians come together for a night of true afro street and club revelry showcasing the diversity of Africa and her Diaspora. A light-hearted and high-energy exchange of Afro-Urban dance and music styles. The phrase ‘Bacchanal de Afrique’ is a play on words using the languages connecting people of African descent around the world. A sort of pidgin, creole or patois: Bacchanal de(y) Afrique (Party is in Africa, Party is from Africa, Revelry of A freak).

History

Bacchanal de Afrique grew out of a vision and collaboration of a few Bay Area artists of African descent to celebrate their shared love of all things Africa as it is reflected in urban life. They are motivated by the idea that expressions of life, joy, art and culture in themselves is a political statement. What began as a day party and fest in 2009 is growing to include Artist residencies, workshops, apparel and art, and an online community of artists and participants.
